WHAT ARE SUMMER PROJECTS?

Summer Projects are programmes of educational and recreational activities that take place in many communities through the greater Dublin area during the summer months. Summer projects are organised by local communities and supported by Catholic Youth Care. Children and young people from the local community – be that a parish area, community  etc.

WHO ORGANISES THE PROJECT?

The project is organised by adults from the local community, who come together to plan, organise and run the activities.  A management committee should be set up to do the planning and organising.


WHERE CAN I GET HELP AND ADVICE?

Your local Youth Service will provide you with advice, support, training and other services


ADVICE AND SUPPORT

CYC staff meet regularly with project committees to give on going advice and support.  Information is provided through regular meetings.

CYC staff provide training on Child Protection Guidelines, committee procedures, on working as a team, on bullying, on the role of the co-ordinator, in good project management and in public relations.  Practical skills workshops in arts & crafts, dance, fun & games, outward bound activities are also organised by CYC.


PROGRAMME IDEAS

CYC help projects to plan and organise activities, to use local resources, to participate in inter project events and to explore all the cultural and recreational centres in the greater Dublin area.


TRAFFIC SCHOOL

The Dublin City Council Traffic School provides filmed and practical instruction in road safety and use for children.  CYC can arrange a limited number of visits to the school for summer projects.


COMMUTER TICKETS

A special commuter ticket is available from Bus Atha Cliath/Iarnroid Eireann for summer projects during July and August.  An application form for the ticket is available from CYC.


INSURANCE

Register summer projects may be included on certain conditions on CYC Policy for Public Liability.


LOCAL AUTHORITIES

Local Authorities provide grant aid for summer projects.  Further details are available from the local Council or County Council office.
