What is It’s my place2?
Young people are making a positive difference to their communities. In all sorts of ways they contribute to making their communities a better place to live in. Its my place too : young people in the community gives you an opportunity to tell others about your achievements.
It my place too : young people in the community is CYC's active citizenship project.
Active Citizenship is all about making a contribution to the local community;
It ‘s about improving the local community;
It’s about increasing the involvement of young people in the community;
It’s about helping other people in the community;
It’s about helping other communities in the different parts of the world.

List of Entrants for 2008 Showcase event
Megabites Youth Café
MegaBites is the name of the New Youth Café in Lucan. Conceived, planned and brought into life by a very enthusiastic youth committee. The café had a grand opening on 3rd October 2008.
Plough Youth Club
This project from Ballymun brings bringing young people and older people together in the Plough Youth Club. Young members of the club visited senior citizens in the community and in the youth club and invited them to play a role in the youth club and participate in activities in the club.
Club 4U
Club 4U from Killester looked at issues of Underage Drinking\Smoking\Bullying and Suicide in order to create greater awareness amongst club members of these issues. The project also looked at ways young people can deal effectively with these issues.
The Castle Project
The Castle Project is based in Ballogan in South County Dublin looked at issues of isolation and bullying amongst youth people in the area. The group wrote and starred in a short 8 minute DVD on their experiences.
Circle of Friends
A group of young people from Arklow came together and decided to clean up their local estate. The group organised clean up days, involved all the people living on the estate and worked with local service to provide better litter facilities in the area.
Colourful Crew
These young people from Ronanstown in Dublin 22 decided to renovate a derelict space near their youth centre. They decided to do something with this space using art as a technique. The space is now revamped and colourful and a place that can be used and enjoyed by all within the community centre.
Cultural Aware Group
The group from Ronanstown organised a visit to Brussels in Belgium where they met with Government Ministers and M.E.P.’s They shared ideas around A.S.B.O.’s and the Lisbon Treaty and participated in a cultural event which highlighted the comparison in youth work between Ireland and Belgium.
Ballybrack Youth Project – Environment Project
This project addressed environment issues affecting their youth centre. They looked at way in which the youth centre could reduce their carbon footprint and make the centre more environmentally friendly
![]() Cast members form the SAY Project DVD. SAY Project The SAY Project from Kilcross has produced a DVD which looks at the issues of drug use and bullying in the community. The whole project from scriptwriting, to acting, to directing- was carried out by the group.
St John Bosco Youth Centre
This project from Drimnagh in Dublin 12 looked at the issues of underage drinking and how the youth centre could address and educate young people about this. The group decided to devise a series of painted panels which would alert young people to issues and concern around underage drinking.
Bayside Youth Club
This group from Bayside, Sutton in Dublin 13 organised a Talent Night for all the community. The group, aged 13-16, organised and took full responsibility for all aspects of the project including advertising, auditions etc. In addition, the group organized what proved to be a very successful night for the community.
GreenFingers – Knockmitten Youth and Community Centre
This project set out to design and construct a community garden suitable for senior citizen. The space chosen is at the rear of the community house. This will be a place where the elderly of the community (and others) can relax and participate in other activities such as gardening, arts and crafts
IACI
Embracing Diversity is the title of the project for the Integration of African Children in Ireland Network. The project looked at the experience of living in multicultural Ireland and how youth groups can engage positively with different cultures in Dublin.
