A Summer Project should be organised by a group of responsible adults who undertake to organise a programme of summer time activities for children of their locality. In addition to organising the programme, they must take the following steps to ensure the summer project is attractive, affordable and safe.
Management
Each group must have a Management Committee (of at least 3 adults) which starts meeting no later than March.
The Committee must meet regularly to organise the programme, fund raise, budget, advertise and register the members and recruit other suitable adults to supervise the project.
All leaders must agree to comply with the CYC Code of Good Youth Work Practice.
The names and addresses of all members and leaders must be recorded and safely stored.
All leaders must be carefully selected.
All new leaders must comply with the CYC Recruitment and Selection procedure which includes Garda Vetting.
All new leaders must undertake Child Protection Training before commencing work with the project.
An AGM should be held within three months of the completion of the summer project. A final statement of the finances, income and expenditure must be prepared and a copy of these presented to CYC.
Membership
The committee will decide on the age range and number of children who can participate in the project.
The committee may decide the geographical area for which the project caters.
The number of members registered will be determined by the number of adult leaders, the facilities available and the cost.
The safety of members and leaders will be paramount.
Programmes
The programme should be as varied, attractive, affordable and as challenging as possible. A variety of home based and trips should be included.
Projects should avail of the use of local facilities and personnel, such as sports coaches, tutors for swimming, drama, games.
Insurance
All activities, events and trips must have adequate insurance cover. CYC has a group public liability insurance policy specifically for summer projects which can be availed of.
If any of the criteria for registration are not fulfilled throughout the Project duration the registration will be automatically cancelled. Any breaches of CYC Child Protection Policy and Procedures will result in an investigation which may ultimately result in disaffiliation.
Application
Completed Application forms should be returned by Friday 13th of May to:
