Youth Work offers a satisfying career working with young people. There is a great variety in the types of youth work that can be done with young people:

*    Adventure Sports -  works as an Adventure Sports Officer.  Promote healthy lifestyles for young people. Develop confidence and self reliance in young people. Promote environmental awareness.

*      Garda Youth Diversion Programmes - work with young people who are 'at risk' of becoming involved with or who are  currently involved with Criminal Justice Agencies.

*   Drug Education and Prevention -  help prevent young people becoming involved in substance use and work with young people on issues related to substance use.

*   Youth Development Officer - deliver youth programmes, training and services to youth groups.

There are also other jobs available in youth work in the "non youth work sector" such as jobs in finance departments, Human Resource Management and in management positions generally. Positions within the youth sector are generally advertised in the national press and on youth work websites.

Catholic Youth Care (CYC) is a Diocesan Agency of the Dublin Archdiocese which provides a range of Youth Services in the greater Dublin area.
CYC, in conjunction with the Office of Evangelisation for the Archdiocese, currently has a vacancy for the following post:

Youth Evangelisation Officer
(1 year contract)

The ideal candidate will:
•    have a relevant third level qualification and experience in youth work
•    demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills and be an effective communicator
•    have the ability to teach/lead groups in Liturgical music and song.

The successful candidate will:
o    implement the Pope John Paul II Awards across the Diocese
o    assist in the preparation for and participate in the World Youth Day event, August 2011 in Madrid.

The successful candidate shall be required to work within the ethos, policy and philosophy of CYC and to observe the Code of Good Practice in Youth Work for the Protection of Children.
In addition, the candidate will be required to complete a Garda Vetting application form.

Catholic Youth Care (CYC) is a Diocesan Agency which provides a range of Youth Services in the greater Dublin/Wicklow area.   NEW DIRECTIONS is a Garda Youth Diversion Project.  Garda Youth Diversion Projects are co-funded by the European Social Fund & the Irish Youth Justice Service, Department of Justice and Law Reform in conjunction with An Garda Síochána.  The Project caters for young people in the Bray Area.

Development Officer/ESF Additional Worker – Garda Youth Diversion Project
The ideal candidate will:
•    have a good standard of education – ideally  hold a relevant third-level qualification
•    have experience of working with disadvantaged young people in a youth work setting and an understanding of their needs
•    have a good understanding of the boundaries of youth work/child protection
•    have a good understanding of the Criminal Justice System
•    possess strong interpersonal skills and be an effective communicator
•    possess good IT skills – reporting and recording
•    have experience of working with the relevant Agencies – Gardaí, Social Services, Probation Service etc.
•    be able to work flexible hours
•    be a good team worker

The successful candidate shall:
•    be required to work with young people (12 – 18 years) who have come to the attention of the Gardaí, the community or local agencies as a result of their behaviour and are considered at risk of entering the justice system at a future date
•    be required to work on improving young people's participation in sustainable employment, identify pathways towards employment including second chance education and training and work on combating discrimination in accessing and progressing in the labour market and promoting acceptance of diversity in the workplace
•    be required to work within the ethos, policy and philosophy of CYC and to observe the code of good practice in youth work for the protection of children
•    be required to complete a Garda Vetting Application Form
