Job Description
Duties: The person appointed will carry out his/her duties subject to the control and direction of authorised CYC personnel.Adventure Sports Officer Responsibilities: • Take responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all young people involved in your programs • Overseeing the development of all Adventure Clubs / Groups • Have a committee role on Adventure Clubs • Ongoing instructing with Adventure Clubs / Groups • Evaluation of Adventure Club or group work • Liaising with Independent clubs to establish links on training, standards & sharing of resources • Use of CYC Adventure Clubs Website (includes facility booking system, club calendars, training calendar, media download, adding content & replying to queries) • Committee role on the Adventure Clubs Network Committee • Manage, monitor and evaluate any contract staff working under you • Monitor tutor training & standards & ensure all tutors are facilitated with child protection & youth work training • Liaise with colleges & NGB’s to locate tutors & ensure standards • Taking and administering bookings for ad-hoc sessions from a range of groups • Booking & monitoring tutors for club & ad-hoc sessions • Keep a record of all tutors hours and ensure payment of such • Manage and monitor students on Work Experience • Organising transport of facility keys & equipment between tutors • Instructing on ad-hoc sessions where tutors are unavailable • Assisting with drawing up and updating of Adventure Sports Operations Manual • Implementation and updating of Adventure Clubs Constitution & Overview • Applying for various grants for both the Network and individual clubs • Applying for general grants for equipment & facility development • Looking after the running and maintenance of Adventure Sports facilities • Invoicing & lodging cheques for ad-hoc groups & keeping accounts of such • Maintenance and safety checking of all equipment • Attend all team, regional and committee meetings • Prepare for and attend performance management meetings • Complete all reports required by your Head of region • Complete any extra tasks given to you by your Head of region • Arrange meetings and give presentations to related organisations –city council, local youth resources, drugs task forces, local network development groups etc – to push for development & funding of local Adventure clubs & resources • Organise and run various events designated from co-ordinator from time to time – i.e. --- Adventure Club Launches & Garda Projects Weekends etc • Organise & run annual Adventure Sports events as delegated by co-ordinator. i.e. – Climbing competition, Adventure races etc • Complete any extra tasks as delegated by your co-ordinator, i.e. tutor training system, operations manuals, organising training or social events etc. • Research & develop new activities • Ensure that programmes are developed and that participants are progressing with their technical and personal skills • Ensure that regular NGB training programmes are run & offered to participants • Organise and run Adventure club expeditions • Drive minibuses to and from activities whenever drivers are unavailable • Keep your own personal qualifications and training up to date • Ensure that you keep up a good level of physical fitness and health to enable you to act as a safe and capable Instructor • Attend Youth Work related training • Develop a relationship with the young people in your care, discuss issues that arise & liaise with both parents & youth workers on their progress • Help organise and attend fundraising events for Adventure Clubs • Set up and run Summer Project activities for CYC groups • Keep a record of mileage and expenses & claim back on monthly basis • Attend all CYC events • Attend all NGB related events. In addition the Officer: • Shall be expected to promote the ethos and mission of Catholic Youth Care. • Shall work closely with the Senior Management Team of CYC and comply with the policies and procedures of the Human Resources, Financial and Youth Work functions of the Agency. |
| Garda Youth Diversion Project Staff This position is funded by the European Social Fund through the Irish Youth Justice Service, Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform in conjunction with An Garda Síochána. The project staff are employed by Catholic Youth Care as development officers and will operate out of the local Youth Service under the day to day supervision of the Youth Service Education Officer. All CYC staff are expected to work under CYC policies and guidelines. The staff member will also work to an advisory committee which meets one a month. It will be the responsibility of the Garda Youth Diversion Project staff to: 1. Identify, engage and work directly with project participants selected from the primary and secondary project target group; 2. Implement programmes and activities in the catchment area in line with the GYDP guidelines* and approved by the project committee; 3. Report to the project committee and attend the project and referral assessment committee meetings; 4. Act as a link between the participants and agencies and work with local agencies in developing appropriate responses to participants’ needs; 5. Keep project records and provide updates and reports as requested; 6. Take part in ongoing approved training for developing the Garda Youth Diversion Project; 7. Carry out any other duties deemed necessary by the youth organisation, Gardaí or project committee for the development of the project and fulfilment of the strategic plan of the Garda Youth Diversion Project. *In the event these are revised, all subsequent guidelines outlined by CYC, IYJS and/or Garda Community Relations for the operation of GYDP’s |
